Surprise! Unexpectedly high ceilings …


Investigative work on the structure of the old building … making holes in the ceiling we discovered big, wooden beams and an extra 1.3 meters of height to work with. The architect thinks we could add a mezzanine level which would give the flat a lot more space!

And we found out that most of the walls were built only as high as the false ceiling, making their potential removal a much reduced risk and volume of rubble.

Also the cast iron column that is partially hidden by the wall turns out to have a nice capital.
